Long Time Gone.

Its seems that as soon as Heroes was over I stopped blogging and then, today, one day Before Fugitive’s starts, I come back.

Well, I have a reason for that, I’ve been busy, terribly terribly busy.

My life has been yanked out of its cyclical routine and I was completely dazed and lost, and forgot to come here. It’s a new semester you see, and it looks like, unlike last semester, this one is going to be GOOD!!

I am taking six classes, a full eighteen credit hours, and across three campuses too: One at Downtown, Two at West and three in Main. Which means that I’ve become very familiar with the new Light Rail and the Shuttles that ASU provides.

So this semester I’m taking:

STP 226: Elements of Statistics, which seems fun and I am enjoying, strange, because I usually hate math.

ASM 455: Primate Behavior Lab, which rocks!!! Because Dr. Nash is the instructor and its already a major challenge, making it my hardest class this semester.

ASB 102, because I got bored last semester and failed it. This semester I have a good teacher and the classroom is not full of idiots.

SPA 413: Advanced Spanish Grammar, and yes I very much like it.

SPA 426: Spanish Literature from 1700 to Present, which seems like it will be very interesting, plus the teacher is way smart, and a tad bitchy.

ENG 102: Composition, because I finally finished 101! Yay!!

I’ve also discovered that my much planned and expected trip to London may not work out, because I have no money, well, I have money, just not enough, Britain will have to wait for me, unless I can talk people into giving me money. And a lot of it, right now I’m a whole two thousand dollars short. I may have to find another way for getting the hell out of America. I will try and I swear I will go to London soon, maybe in the Summer if I can find those 2k’s or the Fall semester.

I went to see Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and loved it!! I also went to see Slumdog Millionaire, and I absolutely loved it (they will each get a post later on, after Heroes: Fugitives ep. 1)

The Borders closest to me closed about five hours ago, permanently. I am very, very sad and require coffee to cheer me up. 😦

I’ve read more of Le Guin’s Works, including The Tombs of Atuan, Very Far Away From Anywhere Else, Gifts, and I’m working on The Telling, Changing Planes and The Word for World is Forest.

Oh and January 20 was one of the HAPPIEST DAYS OF MY LIFE!! PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA!!!!

I was very pleased when he cut salaries and finally closed Gitmo! It looks as if America will finally grow a backbone and start respecting Human and Civil Rights. I was disappointed when Obama replied to Hugo Chavez’s congratulations by saying that he (Chavez) was impeding progress in South America, in fact, I’m still pissed at Obama for that, he really needs to stop making the same shitty mistakes that Bush made by pissing off Latin America.

For now, that’s all because it’s very late, or very early depends on how you look at it, either way i WANT COFFEE!!!!

Ciao.

It’s Coming (The Fatal Blow nobody saw Coming)

After It’s Coming, the Heroes Universe went crashing down. This will be followed by a two part Eclipse that already promises to leave the Heroes plot line dragging itself in shame deeper into the sewers.

I understand the idea and metaphor behind The Eclipse, it’s much like The Second Coming. The eclipse, a moment where all is dark and abilities are gone, a eclipse, a momentary distraction that makes one forget that were about to start an all out war in the Heroes Universe. I get it. But right now, after a lagging three episodes, i think it would be best if we just went at it and started fighting. I think that the writers have a wall, much like Laurall K Hamilton’s wall with Post-Its with the will happens ideas for the NicEssus series and much like my own Biology Notebook that rather than housing notes about my class, houses plot ideas, character ideas, should writes and half assed- poems that I wrote in the middle of lecture. And on of those was led on by the Arthur Petrelli steals powers idea that must have been the origin of the Eclipse episode idea.

What would happen if they ALL lost their abilities? I can tell you: a shitful of Company issued Guns, Angela having something to say about their fortune; Mohinder’s eyes wide open at the large number of new test subjects and Sylar going over to the dark side again, possibly killing some characters that would make the Heroes Universe much simpler and gaining a new sense of direction. Possibly, I really have no idea, but I think that after this episode, we will either have to cheer in the brilliance of the writers, or go crawl in bed with Supernatural seasons 1-3 and watch that instead, after renouncing Heroes forever. Oh and at the end, they will ALL have their powers back, this i predict.

Anyway. About It’s Coming.

Sylar is an empath, who knew?

I did not, but I guessed after I heard somewhere that something “shocking” was going to be revealed about Sylar’s powers, since in The Second Coming, we got one answer, I could only imagine they were going to make something up, especially after the much impromptu and not very well though out Elle/Sylar thing. So I guessed, and I was right. Sad but true.

So right now, the two part Eclipse ordeal, to which I am looking forward, to see if Heroes is redeemable, is looming and then the war can start up again.

On good thing about this episode though, is how at the end, the characters were shown gathering, each to their leader, one by one, letting us know where the line was drawn. Except for Hiro, who thinks’ he’s ten and going crazy in Japan with Ando freaking out. Seriously writers, could we not think of another way of distracting Hiro? Anyway,

It’s Coming!!

Heroes Dives

The last time i posted something about Heroes was way back at Eris Quod Sum, just before November started. Since, I have been amused, exited, terrified and lately, disappointed by Heroes.

In Villains, a go into the past and fill in hole in the plot episode, we explore the lives of Meredith, Flint, Angela, Arthur, Linderman, Elle, Sylar and Nathan. This episode had its ups and its down and almost, almost, served as a kind of comic relief between the first appearance of a major Villain (Arthur Petrelli, with his power theft ability) and the continuation where lines have been drawn and Villains face off against Heroes. The entire affair having a beautifully deranged biblical edge to it as Arthur Petrelli (to whom I fondly refer too as Papa Petrelli) leads the Villains and his wife Angela Petrelli (my favorite character, fondly known by me as Mama Petrelli) leads the surviving Heroes.

Except this episode failed. Rather then giving us only relevant information, the writers/creators gave us the beginning of another bad romance (they apparently did not get it when West/Claire, Maya/Mohinder and Hiro/Princess bombed that they cannot write romances) this time between Elle and Sylar, who would make and amazingly psychotic couple much like Arthur and Angela, if they were still evil. Elle is not lost and confused int eh world and so is Sylar, so pairing them would be a natural occurrence, except that they’re both lamenting life rather than kicking ass.

Meredith and Flint were a funny pair, that amused me and managed to keep the sideline (a sports metaphor, did i get it right?) busy. And one quote from them made it into my favorites “You know what Daddy used to say: ‘God gave you a big sister instead of a brain.”

Flint i still think is an idiot, and i’m not really interested in him, other than that “sweet sweet power of his”(quoting Sylar)

The main interest of the episode however, were Arthur and Angela. Arthur with his ability (no idea who he stole it from) would keep forcing his thoughts on his wife, explaining why Matt’s power took a while to work on her in Season 2. She being absent minded and lost, much like Sandra after the Haitian, was healed by Linderman in an ususal display of humanity, which makes me think that me may not be that good a villain, since he seems to be a bit of a Hero. Then Angela poisons Arthur, and believes him to be idea, but he, using his telepathic abilities convinced the doctor to pronounce him dead. As it turns out, it wasn’t Linderman who wanted Nathan dead at the beginning of season one, it was Arthur.

All of this occurred, of course, in Hiro’s mind, who took the magic potion that the African cooked up for Matt, then for him.

In th end, Arthur kills Usutu (the African) and attacks Hiro.

This episode was OK. Not my favorite. It wasn’t a complete failure, but it was close enough. Other than the humor and the Arthur Angela back story, We could have done without it.

Eris Quod Sum

Last night’s Heroes episode was named Eris Qoud Sum. And it was as explosive as it was predictive.

Right now, at the end of the episode, a line has been drawn and the heroes are running to either side, joining up and pretending to switch sides, trying to gain an advantage over the other side.

Daphne is pretending to be good, trying to get Matt to either fall in place with Pinehearst, or with the Company.

Which brings me to a second poll.

Anyway.

Sylar tries tot take on the Villains, and ends up joining with them. But he throws Peter, now powerless, out of  a window and it is suggested that he slowed the fall down, allowing Peter to escape mostly unharmed. Claire meanwhile, helps Elle, who has lost control of her power, by taking her to Pinehearst and conveniently enough manages to help Peter escape.

Mohinder joins Pinehearst and takes Maya with him, allowing Arthur Petrelli to take her power. MAya is all smiles but is terrified of Mohinder, who is all out villain now and seriously needs to die.

Nathan learns that his father is alive and decides, stupidly, to go to his father. Taking Tracy with him, leaving Noah Bennet and Meredith Gordon with the knowledge that the Company needs to regroup and prepare to take on Pinehearst.

Hiro meanwhile, argues with Usutu over how to prepare for the coming battle. Hiro refuses to go to the past, so Usutu prepared the same recipe that he made for Matt and threw him into the future, only this time, it throws Hiro into the past. Usutu says that the recipe has passed down through his family and takes people on spirit walks.

And when Arthur suggests that Daphne kill Matt, Maury reacts and Arthur kills him. So slowly, Arthur is killing off the villains, first with Adam, then Maury adopting a completely tyrannical rule over Pinehearst. Which i hope will cause the villains to divide themselves.

I was very thrilled that the episode title was in Latin, because i am learning Latin and i was actually able to translate it into English. Keep in mind that my Latin is very rudimentary: “You shall be as i am”

Which gave em a poem idea, which i guess is bad becasue NaNoWriMo starts soon, and i should be focusing on Novel Writing rather than in poetry, but i will write this one before the week is out. If i am lucky, before the day is out.

Anita Blake Comic

I am not really a fan of comic books. Actually, I’ve never read any, until Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake Series was made into one.

Now I read those and the Heroes Webcomic of course. They just finished publishing Guilty Pleasures and now started with The Laughing Corpse, except these come marked as out of 5 which makes me wonder, are they doing it in two parts or are they cutting parts out of the novel?

The cover of Issue 1 amused the hell out of my mom. Anita is dressed in a pink dress that looks like something someone might have worn to a prom, except Anita is also sporting a shotgun over one shoulder, aiming a Browning Hi-Power at the reader and the side of an Uzi is peaking from behind her back. My mom’s comment was

“Some Prom”

And I had to laugh back, because since she’s only read one Anita Blake novel, she really has no idea that this is one of the more “mild” books.

So, now I’m going to go watch more Weeds, after I read my little Anita Blake comic book, and eat, I think I’ll go out for a steak.

Sorry i could not resist trying this poll thing out!

The Idiot Ball

There is a quote somewhere about a TV screen writer who once asked “Who is carrying the idiot ball this week?”

In Heroes, there a lot of people carrying the Idiot Ball this week. Actually its more like four idiot balls.

They are in order of idiocy:

1-Hiro Nakamura. After Kaito clearly states that Hiro is NOT to open the safe Hiro, against Ando’s advice, opens the safe, then Daphne steals the formula. This is episode “The Second Coming” Then in “One of Us, One of Them” Hiro goes to find the second half of the Formula in order to fix his first mistake leads us to:

2-Ando Masahashi. In “One of Us, One of Them” Ando knocks the Haitian out, allowing Daphne to take the second Half of the Formula from Hiro. By the time he reacts, the Haitian has awoken and stops him from stopping time therefore letting Daphne escape.

3- Mohinder Suresh- Eager for powers and incredibly exited about having found a way to give them to anybody, Mohinder, against Maya’s advice, injects himself with his own version of the Formula. It gives him heightened senses, strength, flexibility, aggression and boosts his immune system (as well as a high craving for milk) Then he discovers that something is wrong with him. By “I Am Become Death” his aggression has caused him to interfere with a marital fight upstairs and chase off Maya. Then in the future part of the episode, he is hidden in his old, unkempt, dusty lab, where he has shut the windows and hides away from light, the walls are also covered in slime. He is at this point unsure if this is caused by his ability or if its an allergy. The only thing he is sure of of that “I got the formula wrong” Yeah, no shit, Suresh.

4- Matt Parkman, Knox, Claire Bennet, Daphne Millbrock, the African. Its a tie. Matt is following a turtle around becasue he thinks that its his totem. The African Man also points out that Parkman doesn’t read much, which if you could paint the future and know everything about a person, you’d know that Matt is very dislexic. Claire, Daphne, and Know follow shortly, after failing to realize that pissing off a former villain by killing his son might not make the best survival strategy, especially when his visiting dear brother also happens to have a toolbox of aquired abilities. As a result, Knox, Daphne and Noah end up dead, maybe in an alternate future, they should just follow Tracy’s example and jump off a bridge.

Which reminds me, I was wrong, Tracy isn’t a clone, she’s one of three, all whom the Company gave abilities. I smell Linderman, perhaps he should carry an honorary idiot ball.

So to sum up the episode:

Future Peter takes Present Peter to the future. Matt listens to music that makes him see the future (iTunes, which songs so i can buy them?) Tracy tries to turn herself in, Nathan sees Linderman, Future Peter shows Present Peter the Future where anone can aquire abilities via the Formula. Claire, the Haitian, Daphne and Knox corner them and Claire kills Future Peter, while Present Peter escapes to find Suresh, who had become some sort of animal mimic (I’m guessing lizard (like little Mohinder) Fly (perhaps hinting at the Fly remake?) or Cockroach (they’re everywhere, and Mohinder thinks highly at them, remember “genesis?”)) Then Present PEter goes to find Future Gabriel (Sylar) to get his ability. Gabriel, so fondly, prevents PEter from using his telepathy to get it out of him (so, new aquired ability?) and then teaches Peter how to use the ability after eh paint the future. Then all hell breaks loose, as Claire, Knox and Daphne show up, Noah dies, Sylar blows up Coasta Verde, and Peter ends up in a morgue somewhere, where he tries to harvest Nathan’s ability (even though he already has it.) then he teleports to the present to find Sylar who is amazed that Peter  had inherited his Hunger. Matt wakes up, and the rest was covered in the Idiot Ball section of this post.

The END.

Actually i’ve been watching Life too, its amazing, but i’m not entirely an obcessed fan just yet.

Next up: Why Turkey is run by morons, Johnny Clegg’s music rocks, Nelson Mandela likewise rocks, Sephen Carter carries the real version of the Idiot Ball, and The Tao of Writing.

oh, and Hiro and Ando dig up Adam Monroe.
